Texas DPS Criminal History

The Texas DPS Computerized Criminal History system collects conviction data from all Texas courts, including Dallas County. When the county court enters a conviction or deferred adjudication for an Irving case, it reports to the statewide database. You can search at publicsite.dps.texas.gov for $3 per name. One search covers all 254 Texas counties.

The DPS search is useful for a quick statewide overview. It will not show arrests without convictions or cases still pending. For more detail on specific cases, use the Dallas County clerk portal or re:SearchTX. For official employment or licensing background checks, a fingerprint-based search through IdentoGO at 1-888-467-2080 gives the most complete result. Expunction and Nondisclosure in Irving

Texas provides two main ways to address a criminal record. Expunction under Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 55 destroys records from qualifying cases. If you were arrested in Irving and the case was dismissed, you were found not guilty, or the arrest was a mistake, you may qualify. You file the expunction petition in Dallas County where the case was handled. The court then orders all agencies to destroy their copies of the record.

If expunction does not apply, nondisclosure under Texas Government Code Section 411 may be an option. This seals the record after you complete deferred adjudication. The record is no longer visible to the public. Waiting periods apply depending on the offense. Some misdemeanors allow filing right away after completing deferred adjudication. Felony cases require a five-year wait. Violent crimes, sex offenses, and family violence charges do not qualify.
